LIDAR APPLICATIONS & EXAMPLES |

Lidar earthworks: landfill volumetrics |
Aero-Metric offers extensive lidar services, from collecting and processing data, to earthworks, interactive fly-through video and project training. We also have a large DEM data library, including detailed lidar, IFSAR, and photogrammetric data for select areas of the state. These products are useful in many applications including: |
Natural Resources &
Forest Management
Lidar data can provide accurate surface contours, watershed information, assessment of fill inventory, characterization of vegetation and soils, and much more. This kind of detailed information can be used in many mining, natural resource development, and forest management applications. |

Planning & Analysis
Juneau Access Study
Aero-Metric provided controlled contour mapping and high-resolution digital elevation models (DEM) from lidar data for three-dimensional modeling of avalanche chutes and the proposed roadway corridor associated with road alternatives for the Juneau Access Study. |

Hydrology & Flood Plain Mapping
The degree of accuracy of elevations for flood risk evaluation and mapping is important. In the past, detailed high-accuracy mapping has been an expensive proposition. But airborne lidar technology now allows large areas of precise data to be captured with relative economy.
Aero-Metric acquired lidar data and provided topographic information for determining the floodplain and stream banks in an area downstream from the bridge over the Matanuska River east of Palmer, AK. Two foot contours were provided as well as first return and bare-earth datasets. |

Transportation Engineering
Lidar technology can provide many advantages for transportation engineering. Road corridor design alternatives can be routed over new mapping, and educated decisions can be made with detailed and accurate information showing potential natural hazards such as flooding and landslide areas. Accuracy and efficiency can also be achieved in wooded and vegetated areas.
Software also allows for the application of shaded color overlays on DEMs and intensity images from lidar data, each color corresponding with elevation ranges. These images can be useful tools for engineers and planners as well as for presenations to non-technical people. |
